Man in the Mirror

It starts with you
take a good look at yourself
do you like what you see?

Below is a poem that has nothing to do with the song, though, maybe this poem inspired the song.

But, only the songwriter knows for sure. I found this poem on the internet.

The story goes that this poem was written on a prison cell wall by someone on death row. They don't know who wrote it, apparently he's not living any longer to claim his rights to it. They're just not sure, out of all those that had that cell who wrote this poem.

But, it goes to show you, that it's never too late to change.

The Man In The Mirror
Author Unknown

When you get what you want in your struggle for self,
And the world makes you king for a day
Then go to the mirror and look at yourself
And see what that man has to say.

For it isn't a man's father, his mother or wife
Who judgement upon him must pass
The fellow whose verdict counts most in his life
Is the man staring back from the glass.

He's the fellow who matters, never mind all the rest
Because he's with you right to the end
And you've passed your most dangerous, difficult test
If the man in the glass is your friend.

You can fool the whole world down the pathway of years
And get pats on the back as you pass
But your final reward will be heartache and tears
If you have cheated the man in the glass.
